You probably need to farm a province that gives above average adventure kits to start with. Then you should get an above above average chance at them. not that I have ever pulled a mimic to test that out ...

The only 1* I ever levelled up was Sharan because I needed a healer and she was all I had. I actually still have her on my bench 8 years later ... ah nostalgia. I took her out in the first tower level recently and she actually survived! I would concentrate on a rainbow team (one of each colour) to start, and work through the season. That will get you chances to pull other heroes, and gets you more ham and iron to use for levelling up the buildings in your stronghold. When you get that far province 8-7 is a great one to repeat over and over to gather resources. There were a lot of good guides in the old forums for beginner players. I need to look through what I managed to scrape from it and see if there's anything good.

Levelling non-A+ heroes depends on your situation in the game. I still level up most heroes, although I have had Isrod sitting at 1-1 for four years now. Other heroes keep jumping the red queue. For me, non-A+ are still useful for wars, elemental quests, towers (when I decide to do them), etc. Not so much for raids. But my go-to raid team does include Vainamoinen who I don't think was ever considered A+.

Yay forums! I could not get the hang of Discord, was impossible to find anything useful there. SG severely dropped the ball with shutting down the old forums, IMHO.
